Abhyanga

Abhyanga describes a gentle oil massage. The word Abhyanga is often translated as "anointing." Literally it describes a "movement towards the limbs" (Abhi = towards, Anga = limb). The soothing experience of an Abhyanga strengthens the mind, body and self-healing powers. For daily use at home, Abhyanga should be performed as a full or partial body massage, followed by a warm bath or shower. Synchronized abhyanga in soma In Maharishi Ayurveda, all Abhyangas are carried out synchronously by 2 therapists as part of a Pancha Karma cleansing treatment. Women are only treated by women, men only by men. The synchronous therapy with 2 massage professionals is not only a unique experience, it is particularly effective. EEG measurements (electro-encephalogram, brain current measurement) show that the synchronous application of the brain waves of the two halves of the brain adjust to each other in their activity. This eliminates asymmetries in the mind-body system. Abhyanga is beneficial Subjectively, an Abhyanga with 2 therapists is an extremely pleasant and beneficial experience. The experience of this well-being is important for activating the self-healing powers. Well-being strengthens the ability to regenerate and the immune system. The classical texts describe exactly the effects of Abhyanga. Here you can read an excerpt from Astanga Hridaya, one of the "three great Ayurveda classics". Effects of Abhyanga • Reduces fatigue and strengthens the body • purifies and tones the skin, complexion and body tissues • reduces muscle and joint pain, makes the joints supple • stabilizes the circulation and creates a feeling of lightness in the body • has a strengthening effect on the nervous system and improves vision • improves sleep, reduces insomnia • Improves the mind's resistance to illness and pain • improves self-confidence and willpower • slows down the aging process and rejuvenates prematurely aged tissue • Increases protection against wounds and injuries, improves the body's self-healing powers and immune system Self-application of Abhyanga The classical texts recommend practicing Abhyanga daily. This is only possible as part of a self-oil massage. The body should be systematically massaged from head to toe with a little warmed oil. Instructions for this can be found on our homepage in our video "Self-oil massage". Even with good will, a year-round, daily oil massage from head to toe is hardly possible. That is why there are various sub-applications that can be carried out as a self-massage. The best known are Shiroabhyanga (head massage) and Padabhyanga (foot massage). Some of the treatments you can book in soma: Abhyanga - Synchronous full body massage with oil An Abhyanga is a customized, synchronous full-body treatment performed in six different positions. This extremely soothing and gentle application takes place in silence and at the same time releases the toxins and pollutants from the body tissue caused by previous measures. Abhyanga is carried out synchronously by two therapists.
