A traditional Pancha Karma cleanse consists of 5 forms of treatment and is an extremely effective method of subjecting body, mind and soul to a deep and lasting detoxification and regeneration.
Our Pancha Karma cures are individually tailored to you by our Ayurveda and spa physician Dr. Wolfgang Schachinger. The healing effects of the individual therapies build on each other logically and complement each other. The individual treatment steps systematically remove toxins and harmful substances (such as heavy metals or acids) stored in the body. Read more about Pancha Karma here.
Every Ayurvedic treatment starts with an Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis and a detailed consultation to determine your constitution. This can be carried out in person or by (video) telephone. The treatments of a Pancha Karma cure can be adapted to you based on your constitutional type and the existing clinical picture.
We offer around 25 different treatments in our clinic. The right treatments for your individual Ayurveda cure are put together for you personally. This means that every cure in our somamed house is unique.
We look forward to your visit, which has only one goal: to improve your physical, mental and emotional health and performance to the best of our knowledge.
Our telephone hours are
Mon. to Fri. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

When you come to the Home of Ayurveda somamed for the first time, we will start by taking your personal details. We will also ask you to complete a short medical history form so that we can get an initial overview of your health, lifestyle habits and previous complaints.
Every Ayurveda treatment at somamed is unique, individually tailored to your needs. That is why we then have a detailed discussion in which we work out your concerns, wishes, complaints, medical history and personal health goals together.
Based on this consultation and the pulse diagnosis, a central method of Ayurvedic medicine, we work with you to create customized therapy suggestions. These may include
After the initial consultation, we recommend a blood test in most cases. This includes a standard laboratory test, as is also carried out during a preventive check-up, as well as – depending on the individual symptoms – the determination of specific vital substances by means of whole blood analysis and the analysis of certain hormones. This gives us a comprehensive picture of your health, on the basis of which we can precisely plan your Ayurveda treatment.
The pre-cure serves to gently prepare the body for the main cure. The aim is to relieve the metabolism and digestion and mobilize waste products (ama).
After the pre-cure, the body is ready to undergo deeper cleansing and regeneration in the main cure.
The main cure is the core of Maharishi Ayurveda. It includes the classic methods of Pancha Karma, which are individually tailored to the Dosha type.
Typical components of your Pancha Karma cure at our hotel:
The result after and during the main cure: the body is freed from metabolic residues, the cells regenerate, the mind and nervous system find deep peace.
The intensive cleansing is followed by a follow-up treatment to stabilize the effects achieved in the long term. Of course, we also accompany you during the post-cure at home. Here are some of the things you can do during the post-cure:
Result: The post-cure anchors the new balance sustainably and strengthens the self-healing powers.

Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a simple, natural and easy-to-learn technique that is suitable for people of all ages. It is practiced twice a day for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, sitting comfortably with eyes closed. The mind is guided into a state of deep calm and stillness, while the body relaxes at a very deep level.
This millennia-old technique makes it possible to experience transcendental consciousness – the state of the slightest stimulation of the mind – on a regular basis. This area is often described as the source of our thoughts, a reservoir of creativity, energy and inner peace.
The effect of TM has been comprehensively documented in more than 700 scientific studies. It shows measurable improvements in mental and physical health, such as reducing stress, lowering blood pressure and promoting quality of life. On a collective level, TM can help to reduce social tensions and promote peace.
A path to a more peaceful world
TM is not only a tool for personal growth, but also an effective method for building a sustainable, peaceful world. By reducing individual and collective tensions, TM can contribute to a more harmonious and problem-free society.

An Ayurveda cure in Austria at somamed means more than just relaxation: it is a holistic path to health and inner balance.
Welcome to somamed – your center for holistic health. Our vision is to bring Ayurveda to life in all its depth. To achieve this, we combine four pillars that reinforce each other and create a unique overall concept:
Ayurveda teaches a universal health doctrine that guides us to make our everyday lives healthier and more conscious.
Ayurveda’s traditional recommendations for ahara (diet) and vihara (lifestyle) can be easily adapted to the respective cultural and
climatic conditions. Although Ayurveda originated in India, it is universally applicable.
In our practice, we understand and practice Ayurveda as a medicine that understands consciousness as the basis of life. This view
was founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1918 – 2008) as “Maharishi Ayurveda”.

In Ayurveda, heat is considered one of the most important therapeutic qualities to bring the body into balance – especially when cold, sluggishness or tension prevail. Heat promotes the flow of prana (life energy), relaxes muscles, opens the body channels(srotas) and supports detoxification.
Targeted heat applications – such as warm oil massages, steam baths or medicinal water baths – stimulate blood circulation, activate the metabolism and calm the nervous system. For many people, this means less pain, more mobility and a deep sense of well-being. Our thermal water, which has stored warmth and tranquillity for thousands of years at a depth of 2000m, is a special highlight of deep relaxation for most Pancha Karma guests.
Thermal water is mineral-rich water that comes from deep layers of the earth and is naturally heated. Depending on its origin, it contains different minerals such as sulphur, magnesium, calcium or sodium, which can be absorbed through the skin.
Why thermal water baths are so good for you:
In Ayurvedic terms, thermal baths have a primarily Vata- and Kapha-balancing effect:
Pitta types also benefit – especially with muscle tension – but should avoid water that is too hot so as not to fan the inner fire too much.
The following sequence is traditionally followed in Ayurvedic cleansing therapy:
Snehana (internal and external unction), Svedana (overheating), Shodana (purgation).
After oiling, heat is either applied to the whole body or only to a specific part of the body. The oils used in the incredibly soothing and organizing Ayurvedic massages loosen hardened and tense tissues. They dissolve toxins that have been deposited for years and other harmful substances that can lead to illness and premature ageing.
These dissolved waste products can best be removed from the affected tissues via the blood and lymph. The application of heat dilates the blood and lymph vessels so that this removal can take place without blockages.
Many of these contaminated sites are acidic and cause an over-acidification of our body’s environment. This acidification hinders normal metabolic processes.

According to balneochemical tests, the thermal water in Home of Ayurveda somamed is a sodium hydrogen carbonate-chloride mineral thermal water. This composition gives our healing water a deacidifying effect. The sodium bicarbonate it contains has a so-called “buffering effect”, neutralizing acids.
After the Ayurvedic synchronized oil massage, which removes the acidic metabolic waste products from the tissues, our patients are given a bath with our thermal water. This results in the required overheating. In addition, the minerals naturally present in the thermal water are absorbed through the skin and can render the acidic metabolic waste products harmless.
Bathing cures with mineral thermal waters can be carried out for the following illnesses:

In 2003, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of Maharishi Ayurveda, initiated the purchase of the property in Geboltskirchen, Austria for Home of Ayurveda somamed – Center for Maharishi Ayurveda and Holistic Medicine. The property of Home of Ayurveda somamed not only meets the requirements of Vedic architecture (Sthapatya Veda), it also has land registry secured access to the thermal water of the Hague Three Kings Spring.
Maharishi’s aim at the time was to combine the well-known effects of thermal water with the traditional effects of Ayurvedic medicine to create an even more effective whole.
The thermal water was examined by the balneological department of the Federal Institute for Chemical and Pharmaceutical Research in Vienna as part of a “major medicinal water analysis”. The water from the Drei-Königs-Quelle Haag fulfills the requirements for the declaration of spring water as medicinal water.
Maharishi Ayurveda is a modern form of Ayurveda, the traditional Indian art of healing. Developed in the 1980s by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi – the founder of Transcendental Meditation (TM) – it combines the ancient principles of Ayurveda with the demands of modern life.
The aim of Maharishi Ayurveda is to harmonize body, mind and consciousness, prevent illness and activate the body’s self-healing powers.
While classical Ayurveda has been practiced in India for over 3000 years and includes nutrition, doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), medicinal herbs and routines, Maharishi Ayurveda focuses on additional aspects:
✔️ Strengthening self-healing powers
✔️ More energy, vitality and inner balance
✔️ Stress reduction and deep relaxation through meditation
✔️ Holistic health for body, mind and soul
✔️ Routines suitable for everyday use for a better quality of life

soma is a term from Vedic literature. It describes the natural law that raises individual intelligence to the level of highest holistic development.
As a celestial body, the moon represents the cooling and nourishing properties of soma.
As a mystical medicinal plant in the Himalayas, soma has a medicinal connection.
For the fighter, soma revitalizes the fallen courage, for the human being it brings strength to live, it affects the inner being by enlightening and widening the inner eye of the seer who is searching for truth.
The effects of soma are physically strengthening, heart revitalizing and mind clearing.

More than 40 years ago, Dr. Wolfgang Schachinger was one of the first European doctors to bring Ayurveda from India to Europe. He examined and reinterpreted the ancient Vedic texts with a modern medical background. He did pioneering work and made Ayurveda recognized. The best Ayurveda doctors and therapists learned from him and he is still passing on his knowledge today. But in his heart he is always with his patients. And they come back again, and again.
Dr. Wolfgang Schachinger, Ayurveda pioneer in Europe.
There are many capsules and food supplements. But only very few of them are highly effective. Dr. Wolfgang Schachinger’s products contain his broad knowledge of conventional medicine and his many years of experience in Ayurveda. Only the highest quality Indian herbs and spices are used. Vital substances are added to selected preparations to optimize their effectiveness. The result is unique products that combine the knowledge of Ayurveda with the latest scientific findings.
Arrive. Breathe deeply. Be safe. Be pampered. Whether guests, patients or employees. Everyone has their place here. Everyone’s individuality is seen and accepted. The diversity fills the house with life. Like one big family. Ayurveda originated in Europe with Dr. Wolfgang Schachinger. Now he has fulfilled his dream and – together with his family – has given Ayurveda a home where everyone is welcome. True to the principle: health for all – made easy.
Not wellness. Not just treatment. But: Authentic. Pure. Real. Experience Ayurveda in its pure, genuine form. Ayurveda as a philosophy of life that is lived here through and through. And it is original. The way massages, oil treatments and therapies are carried out. The way they cook. Even the architecture, meditation and yoga. Everything follows the Vedic texts. Just as the great Indian gurus used them thousands of years ago. Only reinterpreted and combined with new ideas.
so gentle, so quiet, somamed.

Have you ever had the experience of entering a building and feeling at ease or becoming calm inside? This could be the home of a family friend, a sacred building such as a church or a temple, a simple house or even a palatial building such as a castle.
What makes a building have an effect on us? Is it the materials, the colors, the shapes, the orientation or the room layout? We are often unable to judge.
While modern building biology assumes that the materials are mainly responsible for the indoor climate of a house, the ancient Vedic architecture “vastu vidya” or “Sthapatya Veda” says that of all the factors mentioned above, structural elements such as proportions and room layout play a major role. Vedic architecture has systematically studied all these influences and combined them to form a whole. Unfortunately, only a few principles of this ancient science are in use today.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1917-2008) meticulously revived various branches of Vedic knowledge and made them accessible to our modern society. These include Transcendental Meditation as well as Maharishi Ayurveda and Maharishi Sthapatya Veda.
About 20 years ago, Maharishi said: “If your house does not conform to the laws of Vedic architecture, then leave it as quickly as if it were on fire!” That sounds very drastic. The buildings in which we work and live have a strong influence on our health and on our economic and social well-being.
Maharishi Sthapatya Veda is primarily involved in the construction of new buildings for families, companies and institutions. This begins with the selection of a suitable plot of land, continues with the planning of a building that contains unique structural elements and ends with the implementation, in which only biologically compatible building materials are used.
Residents of such houses are enthusiastic about the comprehensive effect of these outer shells. “Since I have been living in my Maharishi Vastu house, every day feels like a Sunday,” says Mr. Andrej M. “I am much more relaxed and my sleep and meditation are much deeper. Before, I always felt a lot of pressure, now many things happen automatically. Our children are now much stronger and more self-confident, they get more recognition at school. One son had asthma and is now healthy. All these things are going very positively as long as I keep to the laws of life. I notice very quickly when I deviate from this – I suddenly lack the support from nature that I now experience all the time.”
Anyone planning to build a new house should seek advice from experts in Maharishi Sthapatya Veda when looking for a plot of land. This is because the shape, location and surroundings of the plot of land are decisive in determining whether it is suitable for Maharishi Vastu. After the plot has been chosen, the client, local architect and Maharishi Sthapatya Veda expert work out the space program and other requirements of the building. Based on this information, the local architect first draws up sketches, which are then refined and adapted to the many requirements of Vedic architecture in collaboration with the Vedic architects. The style of the house can and should be adapted to the local architectural tradition.
Important criteria for Maharishi Vedic architecture
Some requirements are essential: the building must be aligned with the cardinal points, have an east or north entrance and the rooms should be grouped around the center of the house, the so-called Brahmasthan. Symmetry and order are important design elements.
Our entire building is constructed to a high building biology standard. We have used only natural building materials without toxic additives and shielded all sources (EMS). Wherever possible, the building materials used were sourced regionally (the wood, for example, comes from Dr. Schachinger’s forest).
The room furnishings come from the company Team7 – Natürlich wohnen, which also produces from local woods in Upper Austria. Our beds are made without metal.
In addition to the use of organic building materials, the entire house and all rooms are structured according to the rules of Vedic architecture (Vastu – Maharishi Stapatyaveda). This creates a high energetic value of the living experience.

At lunchtime, our Home of Ayurveda somamed smells of soothing spices, fresh herbs and lovingly prepared dishes. Our lunch kitchen is not just a culinary meeting place – it is an expression of our philosophy of holistic, seasonal and individual nutrition tailored to the needs of people and nature.
Our cuisine is based on the natural rhythms of the seasons – and therefore also on the changing needs of body and mind. In Ayurvedic teachings, the balance of the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha – plays a central role in health and well-being. Each season has a different effect on these doshas and therefore brings with it its own specific nutritional requirements.
In spring, when kapha dosha dominates, light, stimulating foods help to relieve and detoxify the body. Here, bitter vegetables, fresh herbs and invigorating spices play an important role in restoring energy and lightness.
Summer, on the other hand, brings the pitta dosha to the fore – with heat and intense activity. Cooling, mild dishes with fresh herbs, lots of vegetables and fine aromas ensure that the body remains in balance and does not overheat.
In winter, when the vata dosha is intensified by cold, dryness and wind, we focus on warming, nourishing dishes prepared with soothing spices such as ginger, cinnamon or cumin. Raw food is reduced to relieve digestion and promote inner warmth.
We only put the best on your plate – with maximum care and sustainability. We use:
Our lunch kitchen is open from Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 14:00. In addition to our spa guests, external guests are also welcome to dine with us. Every day, our chef conjures up vegetarian, balanced and deliciously wholesome menus that nourish the body, senses and soul in equal measure.

“I’m eating much healthier now! I’ve reduced my meat consumption and eat fruit every day!” This is the typical statement of someone who realizes that something is wrong with their diet and takes action. However, whether our food is healthy or not does not only depend on the type of food we eat. The quality of the food is very important. But food can only develop its full effect in the body if it is used in conjunction with many other criteria.
We want to keep these criteria in mind. In order to become clear to ourselves about the criteria by which we should judge food, its preparation and use, we can ask 7 questions, the honest answers to which will quickly bring us closer to the ideal diet.
It is important to intellectually engage with the Ayurvedic dietary recommendations in order to understand them. But all these rules should only form an understandable framework in which you develop the intuition to always eat the right food spontaneously.
Become a silent connoisseur of your food! Then you’ll spontaneously do everything right!
As far as possible, we use fresh herbs directly from the somamedgarden and organic vegetables from the Achleitner organic farm in Eferding. The organic basmati rice and our organic spices come from the company’s own Ayurveda store, other organic foods from Biogast. In the somamedkitchen, we cook with the highest quality organic ghee made from Austrian organic sour cream butter, which is produced in our own factory.
