The emergence of soma

soma, how it all began - Part 6 The project falls into oblivion

After the purchase of the land was completed in July 2004, everyone involved had great expectations. In their mind's eye, mayors, local councillors and residents of Geboltskirchen saw the excavators on the meadow, many users of Maharishi Ayurveda saw the buildings growing and were already looking forward to oil applications in the new centre soon.

But exactly nothing happened. Why? Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who had pushed for a quick rededication and immediate purchase of the land, turned to other projects after the purchase of the land by the SABO Foundation, which he initiated. The initial momentum was lost.

The delay in starting the project caused annoyance among supporters and satisfaction among opponents.

Seen in retrospect, this approach by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is understandable. He obviously knew that he had only a short time left in life to plant the seeds of institutions in many parts of the world and to train trustworthy people who would continue to nurture and disseminate the great knowledge of meditation and Vedic science and technology that he had developed over decades.

After Maharishi passed away in 2008, it took some time for his successors to become organised enough to resume the projects he had started. The lion's share of the financial resources of the organisations Maharishi left behind was spent on creating centres in India, where thousands of Vedic Pundits have since been contributing to a more peaceful and harmonious world through the application of Transcendental Meditation and Vedic Rituals.

Other projects could only be further developed worldwide by local initiatives taking responsibility for the further development of the projects.

This is what happened for the Maharishi Ayurveda Centre in Geboltskirchen. The SABO Foundation, which had acquired the land, was unable to raise the funds to implement a clinic project.

Over the years, Dr. Wolfgang Schachinger tried again and again to find investors for a large Ayurveda project on this property. However, there were hailstones of rejections. Although promising feasibility studies were prepared by well-known companies, a large project with 7 - 10 buildings could not be realised.

In 2010, Dr Wolfgang Schachinger founded a prominent platform that combined local forces to establish a Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre in Geboltskirchen. More about this in Part 7.
