Lavender essential oil

In the past, lavender twigs were used to dispel bad smells in sickrooms. The Romans used lavender as a fragrant bath additive. This is where the name lavender comes from: Latin lavare means "to wash". Together with other herbs such as rosemary, angelica or lemon, lavender twigs were used to fumigate plague houses.

Even in earlier times, lavender (Latin name: Lavandula Angustifolia) was an all-rounder plant, which has not changed to this day. Due to its wide range of applications, lavender is considered one of the most important oils in aromatherapy and should not be missing from any medicine cabinet.

Lavender oil is an oil that can also be applied pure to the skin. It has a calming but also invigorating effect, depending on the need. The latter sometimes as a reaction when the dosage is too high.

The most important application possibilities:

  • First aid for burns or sunburn: Apply mixed with aloe vera gel to the irritated skin. Lavender oil is one of the few essential oils that can be applied directly to burns. Counteracts scarring.

  • Insect bites: Apply a drop of pure lavender oil directly to the sting site and the itching will be relieved. The sting site can also be cooled excellently with rose petal hydrol.

  • For muscle tension, a mixture of St. John's wort oil and lavender oil helps to relax and relieve pain.

  • For anxiety, tension, restlessness and insomnia, it helps if you put a drop on the palm of your hand and smell it. It creates inner peace.

  • Tension headaches can be relieved with the scent of lavender. If you have a flowering lavender vine in your garden, you can rub a few petals between your hands and smell them.

  • The scent of lavender is also excellent as a moth repellent.

  • For stress, nervousness and difficulty falling asleep, lavender in combination with mandarin has proven its worth.

  • Relaxing room fragrance for the fragrance lamp: 2 drops of lavender fine, 2 drops of orange sweet, rose petal hydrolate.

  • Relaxing foot massage for the evening: 2 drops of fine lavender, 2 drops of mandarin, 10 ml almond oil.
