Guggul - myrrh resin

Frankincense, gold and myrrh were the gifts that the three wise kings brought the young Jesus from their homelands. Myrrh resin (guggul) is not only fragrant, it has been used since ancient times as a remedy for a wide variety of ailments.

Frankincense and myrrh are desert shrubs whose resins have been used for healing purposes in various medicinal cultures for thousands of years. Desert plants have developed the ability to survive in particularly difficult climatic conditions. The resin expresses the soul of the myrrh bush and contains the indomitable yet highly adaptable life energy necessary for survival in these difficult conditions.

Organic myrrh resin is rare, its purity a particular advantage for its health-promoting effects. Only the highest quality myrrh resin is used in Maharishi Ayurveda Guggul Capsules.

Myrrh resin in Ayurveda

In Ayurvedic herbal medicine (Dravyaguna), myrrh, which has a pungent and bitter taste, is said to have warming, clarifying and purifying effects. The warming effect stimulates the digestive fire Agni. This has a beneficial effect not only on the digestive tract, but on the entire body. Through this warming effect, guggul helps to finish digesting waste products (Ama = the undigested) deposited in the body. Ama (waste products) is the breeding ground for various diseases and can cause considerable pain and swelling in the parts of the body where it is deposited.

Guggul and Agni

The stimulating effect on the digestive fire Agni also leads to measurable metabolic waste products, such as cholesterol, being digested and thus normalised. As myrrh is not only pungent and warming, but also bitter and astringent, it has a mucous membrane-soothing effect throughout the gastrointestinal tract. This is why myrrh is traditionally used for inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Guggul and swellings

Myrrh has been used since ancient times when swelling and pain interfere with the normal functioning of a tissue. This is especially the case with rheumatic diseases. The effect of guggul is explained by the removal of waste products (ama), which leads to reduced swelling and improved mobility.

Other health-promoting effects of myrrh

In the field of female organs, myrrh has been found to have a menstrual-promoting effect and can therefore be used beneficially for women with absent, weak or irregular menstrual periods.

According to classical applications, the clarifying and invigorating effect of guggul is not limited to the gastrointestinal tract, joints and sexual organs. The balsamic myrrh resin is said to have a general energising, heart-strengthening effect that promotes mental and spiritual purity.

Scientific studies indicate that myrrh can be used beneficially in "metabolic syndrome". Metabolic syndrome consists of obesity, diabetes, elevated blood lipids and high blood pressure. These are the main risk factors for all fatal cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes. This effect is consistent with the general rejuvenating effect attributed to myrrh in ancient times. Guggul (myrrh resin) is a beautiful example of how spiritual purity and physical health are related.

In her worldwide bestseller "How to be reborn through modern Ayurveda", the Indo-American neuroscientist Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary recommends carrying out a course of treatment with Guggul capsules as a basic cleanse and later repeating a booster course with Guggul capsules at least twice a year.
