Turmeric as a spice

When travelling to Asian countries, we are fascinated by the colourfulness and variety of flavours of the food. With its bright yellow colour, turmeric makes an important contribution to making food not only tasty and healthy, but also giving it a radiant golden colour. But turmeric is not only used in Asia to improve the taste and appearance of food. You too must have learned the song "Backe, Backe Kuchen" as a child. There it says "Saffron makes the cake gel". Since saffron has always been more expensive than gold, it has been replaced for centuries by the inexpensive and equally healthy turmeric.

What dishes does turmeric go with?

Turmeric is suitable as a spice for dishes of all flavours. The yellow colour of curries is due to the generous addition of turmeric. Curries are spice mixtures that are prepared with great regional differences. Along with pepper, cinnamon, cumin, ginger and coriander, turmeric is a must as an ingredient in any curry mix.

You can find a large selection of high-quality organic spices here.

Maharishi Ayurveda also recommends curries as a healthy addition to meals. As Vata-, Pitta- and Kapha Churna we offer them in three flavours.

Vata Churna is sweetly mild, slightly warming and particularly anti-flatulent. It is suitable for all people who have a somewhat weaker and irregular digestive fire and who are prone to stool irregularities and flatulence.

For people with a Pitta constitution and a resulting tendency to overheating in the digestive system, Pitta Churna is tailor-made. Whenever too much acidity and burning sensations disturb the well-being, the cooling Pitta Churna should be added generously to the food.

If the digestive system is rather sluggish and there is a feeling of tiredness in the head and dullness and heaviness in the stomach after every meal, the strongly warming Kapha Churna helps to speed up the stagnant digestive process. Kapha Churna contains much more warming spices than the other two spice blends and has a balancing effect on weak digestive fire.

Turmeric can also be used to great effect in the preparation of sweet dishes. Not only does it produce surprising and impressive colour effects in cakes, biscuits and creams, but it also makes these dishes more digestible and easier to digest.

We know from medical research that regular use of turmeric in the kitchen can prevent many diseases - from colon cancer to liver disease to infections. Use plenty of turmeric either "solo" or as part of our churnas in your dishes every day!

If you want to use more turmeric for preventive reasons, our turmeric and pepper capsules are very suitable.

We look forward to your feedback!
