Annual product 2018 - Turmeric
Turmeric - substitute for medicines
Turmeric is probably the medicinal plant on which the most bio-medical studies have been written in recent years.
The term "curcumin" appears in more than 12,000 studies in recent years, of which 5,600 are scientific papers dealing mainly with turmeric (see Studies Curcumin). Many of these studies also show effects of turmeric that are similar to those of modern drugs.
Turmeric is a non-patentable natural substance. According to European law, one may only claim effects of turmeric if one registers the substance as a medicinal product. Due to the cost of registering a medicinal product, which amounts to many millions of euros, it has not yet been possible to register a medicinal product with turmeric as its main ingredient.
Here are some areas where turmeric might be effective:
- Cholesterol lowering
Similar to cholesterol-lowering drugs, curcumin, the main ingredient in turmeric, may have a beneficial effect on the endothelium (inner lining of blood vessels) where it can prevent inflammation and circulatory problems.

- Anti-inflammatory
In some studies, the effect of turmeric was compared with the anti-inflammatory effect of cortisol and so-called non-steroidal anti-rheumatic drugs (NSAIDs - such as aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac etc.) . The immunomodulating, decongestant and anti-proliferative effects of turmeric were shown.
- Anti-depressant effect
As with antidepressants, a mood-lifting effect of curcumin was discovered in animal models.
- Blood sugar lowering effect
Turmeric was also compared with the oral anti-diabetic drug metformin. This showed that curcumin can also be effective in diabetes therapy.
- Cancer
Here, studies suggest that turmeric can make cancer cells more sensitive to conventional chemotherapy, possibly enhancing the effect of modern cancer therapy.
Many Asian cultures include turmeric as a spice in their daily diet. As a dietary supplement in addition to a healthy diet and active lifestyle with adequate exercise, sleep and stress management, turmeric should be used not only as a "medicine" in times of greatest need, but primarily as a preventative measure.
Our turmeric capsules with organic turmeric and pepper are particularly suitable for use when travelling or at work. For use in the kitchen at home, we offer turmeric as a spice in various pack sizes.
Make sure to include at least half a teaspoon of turmeric once a day. If you do this preventively for years, hopefully you will never need the medicinal effects of turmeric.
We look forward to your feedback!
