With Ayurveda to a feel-good weight

You would like to normalise your weight? You have already tried several diets, but always lost motivation after a short time? Ayurveda offers an approach without deprivation and fasting.

The millennia-old health teachings know: Many weight problems arise from eating habits that do not satisfy the true needs of body, mind and soul. Therefore, it is not necessary to impose too many restrictions on oneself, but to pay attention to the natural needs of the body and to eat satisfactorily. Ayurvedic scriptures say that a good diet brings happiness and contentment.

How do I listen to my natural needs?

In our early childhood, we usually felt quite well what was right for us, provided our parents supported us. But as the years go by, our eating habits are increasingly influenced by the media and other outside sources. So you may find yourself craving a certain food without knowing exactly what you really want.

Instead of habitually grabbing "anything" from the pantry or fridge, stop for a moment at such a time. For example, first drink a balancing warm drink, preferably a few sips of hot water or Vata tea, and feel inside yourself what could really satisfy you. You may be surprised at what your body tells you. For it may be that a completely different desire than the original one arises. You may have wanted to go for a walk or a visit or something similar.

If you gradually tune in to your body's signals and true needs, you will no longer reach for things that don't satisfy your actual hunger and make you continue to crave food even though your stomach is full.

What is the best way to eat?

According to Ayurveda, eating the right things in the right quantities at the right times and in the right way can contribute a great deal to a healthy, vital life and help prevent disease. This is because it supports our natural dosha balance - the basis for health and well-being, according to Ayurveda. Unhealthy eating habits, on the other hand, lead to an imbalance of the doshas, and conversely, unbalanced doshas often make us eat unhealthily.

Nutrition (Ahara) is therefore considered a form of therapy in Ayurveda. Food and spices are seen as crucial means to bring the doshas back into balance or to maintain their balance. However, everyone needs different food! Conventional dietary recommendations like to be universal: certain amounts of nutrients are recommended per day, no one should eat too much fat or too much sweets, etc. Ayurveda, however, advises some dosha types against fat, while recommending healthy fats (such as ghee or olive oil) to another. This is because each food, its taste and properties have specific effects on the three doshas.

This is how you start towards your feel-good weight:

  • Change your eating habits in small steps, do not stress yourself. A small change already creates a new situation. Start with things that are easy for you or that you particularly like.
  • Don't eat too quickly and eat with pleasure and enjoyment. Be aware of the taste of the food.
  • Try to eat regularly; if possible, have a balanced main meal at lunchtime.
  • Discover your individual nutrition plan. With our Dosha test you will get a first assessment of your individual Dosha distribution.
Ayurveda emphasises that taste (rasa) is beneficial to health. To balance the doshas, the six tastes (sweet, sour, spicy, salty, bitter, tart) should be included in every meal - or at least on the daily menu as a whole.
  • According to Ayurveda, the properties of food (heavy, light, oily, dry, cold, warm), like the tastes, balance the doshas through their opposites. For example, the properties heavy, oily and warm balance Vata; heavy, oily and cold balance Pitta; light, dry and warm balance Kapha.
Is it all just a question of the right diet?
  • Not necessarily. According to Ayurveda, weight problems are often related to a reduced function of the metabolism, e.g. due to slagging. Simply reducing the food intake could further weaken the metabolism. Therefore, after the end of the diet, one usually returns to the original weight very quickly. Therefore, it is important to strengthen the digestive system at the same time - by eating a light diet, drinking hot water every day and taking the appropriate spices and food supplements.*

Not necessarily. According to Ayurveda, weight problems are also very often related to a reduced function of the metabolism, e.g. due to slagging. This is how you get your metabolism going:

  • Drink hot water that has been boiled for 10 minutes or sip small amounts several times a day. If you feel hungry, take a few sips every five minutes.
  • Hot water has properties that balance Vata and Kapha. Pitta types should not drink it too hot.
  • Try our Ayurvedic supplements, such as MA154-Digest Special or Meda products.
  • Regular physical activity in harmony with your body type is beneficial, preferably in the morning Kapha phase from 6 to 10 am.
  • Try the "Garshan massage", a dry rubbing massage of the whole body with Garshan gloves made of raw silk. It is best done daily.
  • The beneficial applications of an Ayurvedic cleansing cure (Panchakarma) can also support digestion and weight loss.
