TIPS FOR THE START OF SCHOOL

Ayurvedic tips for pupils, students and teachers - Part 3

Never before have so many young people been exposed to such stress as today. Statistics and publications of recent weeks speak a clear language. Many young people are frightened, depressed, have sleep disorders and thus a limited receptiveness.
In our last newsletters we have described various applications from Ayurvedic medicine that have a beneficial effect on mental strength, healthy bio-rhythms and learning ability.

Relaxation methods

Today we inform you about the relaxation methods of Maharishi Ayurveda, which can be practised individually or together in school classes. In recent years hundreds of thousands of students worldwide have learned Transcendental Meditation and Maharishi Yoga as part of their regular school curriculum. In the EU, Transcendental Meditation has been introduced into schools with great success in several countries through the EU project 'FRIENDS'.
In many countries around the world, schools are a hotspot of stress and violence. Especially in big cities, there are schools where tension due to social conflicts is constantly palpable.

David Lynch

About 20 years ago, the American director and multiple Oscar winner David Lynch established a foundation whose purpose is to support children in schools with a high potential for stress. David Lynch facilitated TM classes for teachers and students in these schools with the help of specially trained Transcendental Meditation teachers.
Within a few weeks, it was evident that restlessness, anxiety and violence decreased significantly and student learning improved markedly. Both students and teachers are enthusiastic about these programmes.

School trials in the EU

In recent years, EU-funded school trials have been carried out in which the proven programme of the David Lynch Foundation was implemented. Schools in several European countries participated in the EU's "EUROPE" and "FRIENDS" funding programmes. EUROPE stands for "Ensuring Unity and Respect as Outcomes for People of Europe". FRIENDS is an acronym for "Fostering Resilience-Inclusive Education and Non-Discrimination in Schools".
Teachers and students from the participating schools learned Transcendental Meditation. A "Quiet Time" was introduced in the classes twice a day for 15 minutes, during which the supervising teacher and all participating students practised Transcendental Meditation together.

Results of the school trials

The results of these school trials were impressive. Both teachers and students were extremely positive, and the accompanying scientific studies also showed impressive results. The results of these studies can be found on the website www.cwae.org.

More stress due to pandemic

Due to the Corona pandemic, the stress level in all schools in Austria and other EU countries has increased significantly. Stress increases anxiety and prevents achievement and development.
We recommend that all educators in Austria thoroughly examine the programmes of the David Lynch Foundation and put them into practice. Teachers and students alike can only benefit from such a project.

Personal initiative is needed

If you decide for yourself and your children that learning meditation makes sense, you do not need to wait for Transcendental Meditation to be introduced into our school system. You can learn Transcendental Meditation with your family at any time in our practice or in other places in Austria. You can find more information at www.meditation.at and www.meditation.de.
