Which vital substances do we need in summer?

Summer is Pitta time. The heat in nature also increases the inner fire. This is why Pitta easily becomes imbalanced at this time of year.

Irritations in the gastrointestinal tract, digestive disorders, circulatory problems, irritation of the eyes, skin rashes such as sunburn or general exhaustion can be the result of increased Pitta.

Cooling, moderating measures in diet, daily routine and exercise help to keep pitta in check and prevent these disorders.

Sweating

The heat causes increased fluid loss. With sweat and exhaled air, the body not only excretes water. Many trace elements such as magnesium are lost as a result and should be replaced. The magnesium excreted shows up in the form of white sweat marks on clothing.

A lack of magnesium leads to general fatigue, muscular weakness and inner tension. Magnesium is an important vital substance for performance and relaxation.

See our products of the month: Magnesium citrate is a powder that tastes pleasant and immediately replaces the lost magnesium. It does, however, lead to softer stools. This can be an advantage if you suffer from constipation on holiday, but if your stools are too soft you should switch to Siebenalz Magnesium Capsules*.

Gastrointestinal tract, digestive disorders

The most common disorders of the gastrointestinal tract during the summer include heartburn and diarrhoea. In heartburn, too much gastric acid, which is necessary for digestion, is produced or is removed from the stomach too slowly. The ideal antidote for heartburn is our alkaline powder. It contains sodium, potassium, calcium, zinc and magnesium. Bicarbonate, an effective buffering substance, neutralises the acid. This powder can be used several times a day between meals.

Diarrhoea also leads to heavy losses of sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium. This is why it is best to administer alkaline powder several times a day in such situations too.

Circulatory problems

In Ayurveda, blood pressure fluctuations up or down as a result of heat are attributed to an imbalance of the blood tissue. Therefore, remedies that nourish and purify the blood tissue are used for circulatory problems. A particularly effective remedy for low blood pressure and anaemia is our iron rasayana MA600. Magnesium and alkaline powder are also helpful.

Irritation of the eyes

Bright sunlight, the water of the sea, lakes and swimming pools can severely irritate the eyes. The remedy of choice for these ailments is our Triphala Ghee. Rub little Triphala ghee gently on your eyelids before sleeping.

Skin rashes such as sunburn, sun allergy.

Good skin care is important when exposed to the sun. Sun-sensitive skin should be cared for with Pitta massage oil or virgin coconut oil. If the skin has a strong tendency to sun-related inflammation, we recommend MA926 Radiant Skin. This remedy made of medicinal plants and minerals has a nourishing, cleansing and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. It can be used as a preventive measure, and in somewhat higher doses also for complaints.

Is it right to stop taking vitamin D in summer?

A high vitamin D level is the best and safest protection against sunburn. The recommendation by many doctors to stop taking vitamin D in the summer prevents the most effective protection against sunburn and skin cancer. Instead of the health-promoting vitamin D, sun creams with a high sun protection factor are recommended. Most of these sun creams contain substances that have hormone-like effects and are therefore questionable from a holistic medical point of view. A sufficiently high vitamin D dosage (1,000 i.U. per 20kg body weight), on the other hand, has exclusively health-promoting effects.

Own experience and patient reports prove that a vitamin D level of 80 - 100 ng/ml prevents sunburn even with strong exposure.

General exhaustion

For many people, a holiday comes just in time before they fall ill due to exhaustion. We have recommended several times to do a herbal purge before a recreational holiday. This can relieve pent-up exhaustion. In the case of pronounced states of exhaustion, we strongly recommend a laboratory analysis of the vital substances in our practice as soon as possible. This whole blood analysis measures trace elements, vitamins and hormones. The result of this blood test serves as the basis for targeted intravenous substitution of vital substances. In this way, one can achieve an immediately noticeable improvement of the complaints.
