Indian healing art in a village idyll

GEBOLTSKIRCHEN. The Schachinger family opened an Ayurveda centre with 35 employees in Geboltskirchen.

The first plans for an Ayurveda centre in the Hausruck community of Geboltskirchen emerged as early as 2004. At that time, Wolfgang Schachinger, a specialist in the ancient Indian healing art, had secured a four-hectare plot of land with access to the thermal water of the "Dreikönigsquelle Haag". The majority of the local council approved the conversion of the land from grassland. Now, 18 years later, the doctor from Ried and his family - his wife and three daughters work at the centre - have been able to fulfil their heart's project. On Tuesday, after an 18-month construction period, the official opening of "soma med" took place with the Indian Ambassador Jaideep Mazumdar and Tourism Provincial Councillor Markus Achleitner.

"What distinguishes us from other providers is that we are active in the medical field and not only in the wellness sector," Schachinger emphasises. The health facility combines classical Ayurvedic medicine, thermal water treatments and modern medicine.

"People come to us who want to improve their health and performance with natural methods." - Wolfgang Schachinger, the medical doctor is the founder of the Ayurveda Centre.

His daughter Valeria is also a doctor at the centre, and there are a total of 35 employees, about half of whom work in the medical field, while the other half work in the hotel business and the shop. The restaurant is open to both spa guests and everyone else. Three-course lunch menus with Ayurvedic food are offered (reservation necessary).

In India, the natural healing method is on a par with conventional medicine, Schachinger emphasises. In this country, however, some doctors still label it as esoteric. His patients generally include people who want to improve their health and performance, people who have problems with their life energy or suffer from chronic diseases. "Many also use Ayurveda to accompany conventional medical therapies or to slow down the ageing process," says Schachinger.

An open day will be held on Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. (krai)
