Aloe Vera Gel

The gel, which comes from the true aloe, is extracted from the water storage tissue of the large, fleshy, lanceolate leaves. The aloe vera plant originates from Sudan, but is now native to almost all warm countries in the world and is also grown here as a pot plant.

The gel has a mucilaginous consistency due to its polysaccharide content. Furthermore, aloe vera gel contains water-soluble vitamins, amino acids and enzymes. The gel is said to have anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties, which are supported by a low content of natural salicylic acid. An immune-stimulating effect of aloe vera gel is assumed, but has not yet been confirmed in scientific studies. From the Ayurvedic energetics, aloe vera gel is cooling and has sattvic, ojas-proliferating properties. The Sanskrit name "Kumari" means virgin and refers to the naturally pure life energy of a young girl.

  • Aloe vera gel is used both internally and externally, whenever a cooling and wound-healing effect is desired.
  • The application of aloe vera gel is particularly popular and effective for fresh or poorly healing wounds. For this purpose, the gel is simply applied to the wound and renewed again and again after it has dried. This applies to burns as well as cuts, abrasions, bruises or surgical wounds. In the case of poorly healing or greasy wounds, the healing effect can be enhanced by the additional local application of turmeric powder.
  • In the case of burning and itching skin rashes, such as those caused by eczema, neurodermatitis and hives (urticaria), the gel has a pleasant cooling effect and relieves the itching. In these cases, the external application of aloe vera gel is a sensible measure in addition to dietary measures and internal applications of other medicinal plants.
  • In the case of heat disorders of the gastrointestinal tract that are associated with burning complaints (tongue, stomach, liver, irritated intestines "burning"), aloe vera gel can be used internally. For this purpose, one takes one to two tablespoons several times a day.
  • In the case of haemorrhoids and phlebitis with burning sensations, aloe vera gel can be applied to the affected areas several times a day with good success.
  • Aloe vera gel can be used both as a single substance and as an additive in cosmetics - for dry skin and a tendency to cellulite.
