Care for skin and sensory organs in summer

Sun exposure and warm temperatures dry out the skin easily. Also, prolonged swimming, especially in chlorinated water, quickly makes the skin very dry. Dry skin has a lower protective function for the body. Therefore, in summer, the Pitta season, it is especially important to take very good care of the Pitta organ, the skin.

Ghee and various oils are suitable for this. Another application of these substances is the care of the sense organs. Especially when one is exhausted or overstimulated, oils and fats have a particularly beneficial, strengthening and grounding effect.

External use of ghee

The fatty composition of ghee makes it a very good skin and sensory care product. Ghee is nourishing and cooling, which is particularly valuable for the Pitta season and for the Pitta organ, the skin.

Tip: If you do not like the smell of ghee, you can add a few drops of aroma oil to a cosmetic jar of ghee, depending on the leading dosha: Vata aroma oil or lavender oil for Vata, Pitta aroma oil or rose oil for Pitta and Kapha aroma oil for Kapha dominance.

Oil massage

The recommended time for oil massages in the classical texts is in the morning. After strong heat exposure or stress, a ghee or oil application in the evening is highly recommended. You can also do a partial application, e.g. a head massage (Shiroabhyanga). If you have longer hair, you can leave the hairy scalp free. This application, carried out with the right oils, brings cooling for the whole body and relief for overstimulated sensory organs.

Which oil for head and sensory organs?

  • For Vata (stress): MA1433 Ksheer Bala Taila or MP4 oil.
Both oils are Sida cordifolia (sand mallow) and give a lot of strength (= bala).
  • For Pitta (strong inner or outer heat): Ghee or Triphala Ghee
Ghee and Triphala Ghee are cooling and nourishing.
  • For kapha (fatigue, exhaustion, phlegm): Sesame oil, MP16 (only in nostrils).
Both oils are rather warming and activating.

With ghee to a good night's sleep

For a particularly restful sleep, apply ghee or the appropriate oil in small amounts to all sense organs before sleeping:

  • With the middle finger on both eyelids
  • With the index finger in both ears
  • With the little finger in both nostrils
  • With the flat of the hand on the forehead, temples, cheeks and chin.
  • With the fingertips on the hairy scalp

Leave the ghee or oil on for a few minutes and then wipe off the residue with a warm, damp cloth.

Enjoy the summer!
